National Unemployment Rate Drops As Jobs Increase

On Friday, April 7, the Bureau of Labor Statistics published a report which included preliminary national unemployment numbers for March. The national unemployment rate dropped from 3.6 percent in February to 3.5 percent in March.

As the unemployment rate dropped, the nation added 236,000 new nonfarm jobs, on par with previous monthly gains. The largest gains were seen in the leisure and hospitality (72,000), government (47,000), professional and business services (39,000), health care (34,000), social assistance (17,000), and transportation (10,000) sectors.

Unions file lawsuit challenging Wisconsin Act 10

A group of unions representing public employees including teachers filed a lawsuit on Thursday challenging Wisconsin Act 10, which stripped collective bargaining rights from most public employees in the state.
